This is a short part 2 of a conference report (see Thursday, 16th August): Information Literacy and Continuing Professional Development - IFLA Satellite conference in Tampere, Finland - part 1

The University of Tampere hosted this meeting from 8th -10th August 2012. There were many inspiring papers, posters and presentations.

Carol Kuhlthau gave the final keynote speech. She drew on her famous model of the information search process, which she combined with Guided Inquiry. Guided Inquiry is based on a constructivist view of learning. The aim was to provide a framework for collaborative learning.

Kuhlthau hoped that this model could provide a way for librarians to help students and other learners through the inquiry process.

    Big advocate of Kuhlthau's guided inquiry model. For me, the idea essentially means we meet our users at the point where they most need help from a librarian/library, and therefore IL teaching is contextual, meaningful (and hopefully lasting)
